Amravati is a city in the state of Maharashtra in India. It is believed to be the city of Lord Indra, the king of all gods. The city boasts of historical temples of Goddess Amba, Lord Shri Krishna and Shri Venkateshwara. As per the 2011 census, Amravati has a population of 646,801. Hinduism is the predominant religion of the city, and Goddess Ambadevi is worshipped as the chief deity. However, the hilly areas in the Western part are inhabited by tribal groups such as the Kolams.
